India welcomes pact b/w Maoists, 7 Party Alliance

Kathmandu, Nov 10: Indian Ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukherjee today met Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala at Baluwatar to reiterate India's commitment to further the peace process in Nepal following the historic agreement signed between the Maoists and the Seven Party Alliance.

Indian Envoy and US Ambassador to Nepal James F Moriarty and Maoist Supremo Prachanda also called on Prime Minister Koirala and discussed the implementation of the agreement.

Talks also revolved around the issue of arms management and drawing up of a time table for the implementation of the pact.

The Prime Minister has asked the Maoists to strictly implement the accord in the one hour long meeting.

This is the first time that Mr Koirala has met foreign diplomats after the 15 point agreement was signed to end the decade old conflict and restore lasting peace on Tuesday night.
