Kolkata, Nov 10 (UNI) The Engineering Export promotion Council (EEPC), today launched the first ever monthly journal for the Indian engineering exporters to provide insights into the current trends of the global economy and international trade.

Speaking to newsmen after the launch by West Bengal industries minister Nirupam Sen, EEPC chairman Rakesh Shah, said " such a magazine was the need of the hour because of the importance of the engineering sector on the whole and its contribution in India's overall merchandise exports.

He informed that engineering sector has emerged as the largest contributor to India's total merchandise exports, even ahead of gems and jewellery. Export of engineering goods cross US billion in the first quarter of 2006-07, an increase of 20 per cent from last year. At this rate, Mr Shah said engineering exports would touch $ 23 billion in 2006-07 and this would be the highest among all items in overall merchandise exports from India.

Interestingly between the covers of this journal lies a slew of interesting sections like "Spotlight," "World View," "WTO Talk," "Tickler," "Success Stories," apart from the "Quarterly Focus" and routine FAQ's. All these sections have been designed keeping in mind the necessity to create an interesting and interactive journal for everybody related to the world of engineering exports be in India or abroad. Engineering Exporter's Promotion Council is also looking forward to feedback and suggestions through this newsletter.
