'Indiscriminate killings by SL army worrying'
New Delhi, Nov 10: The DMK today expressed serious concern over the ''unprovoked ghastly killings of innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka by the Lankan Army.''
Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister T R Baalu, who is representing the DMK in the UPA Government, called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and handed over a copy of the statement issued by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on the recent ''shocking incident where the Lankan Army has bombed at the residential areas of the Tamil refugee camps at Mattakallapu in Northern Sri Lanka.'' The statement said the bombing resulted in the death of over hundred Tamilians including women and children.
''The incident has shocked entire Tamil community in the World,'' it said.
Mr Baalu requested the Prime Minister for immediate appropriate intervention of the Government in the matter to put an end to such ''unprovoked offensives of the Sri Lankan Army against the innocent Sri Lankan Tamils in future.'' Dr Singh also expressed his concern over ''this human tragedy'' and assured him that he would discuss the matter with External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Foreign Secretary Shiv Shanker Menon and try to solve the issue urgently with the Government of Sri Lanka, said a statement issued from the office of Mr Baalu.
