Central team visits Prakasam dist to assess damage

Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, Nov 10 (UNI) A two-member central team today visited the flood-affected areas in Prakasam district and assessed the damage caused by the recent cyclonic storm 'Ogni'.

Deputy Adviser to Rural Development, Majumdar and C R Gangadhar, Superintendent of Engineer to shipping visited the flood-affected Chirala town and assessed the road, bridge and crop damages.

The two members, accompanied by the District Collector Udayalaxmi and Joint Collector Siddardh Jain, interacted with farmers who lost their crops.

Talking to newspersons later, Mr Majumdar said the report would be submitted to the Centre for assistance. He suggested that the coastal drainage system should be modernised to prevent damage during floods and heavy rains.

The officials said the district had suffered a loss of Rs 293 crore in the recent floods and Rs 61 crore worth crops were also damaged in the heavy rains. The total damage of local and municipal roads was estimated at Rs 32 crore.
