600 gm bladder stone removed successfully

Itanagar, Nov 10: In a rare achievement, Ramakrishna Mission Hospital doctors have removed an abnormally large-sized stone from urinary bladder of a patient at Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh recently.

Though stone in the bladder was a common disease, the patient had been living with it for more than 10 years. The stone weighed about 600 gms. Despite severe pain, the man did not see the doctors as he lives in a remote village. Before this operation, the patient had never visited hospital for treatment.

''Since 27 years, stone of this magnitude was never operated in this hospital,'' the doctors said, adding ''fortunately this stone did not perforate the rectum.'' Lack of health awareness and medical facilities resulted in suffering of patients in the remote areas of the state, sources said and appealed to the state government, particularly health department and volunteer organisations, to create health awareness in the remote areas.
