WRD Executive Engineer suspended

Bhopal, Nov 9 (UNI) The government today admitted in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly that an Executive Engineer of the Water Resources Department had been suspended for irregularities in the purchase of M S pipes for drainage siphon in Vidisha and Rajgarh districts.

Water Resources Minister Anup Mishra, while replying to a call attention notice moved by Dr Govind Singh (Cong), said the Principal Secretary of the department would inquire into the irregularities.

Dr Singh contended that orders for supply of pipes worth Rs 4 crore were given to Dewas Udyog without inviting tenders on the same day when the requisition was made by the subordinate office. The purchases were made to give undue benefit to the contractor and the substandard pipes remained in disuse causing loss to the government, he added.

The Minister admitted that technical sanction for changing the drainage crossing to aqueduct was yet to be given, while pipe purchase was made in 2003 and 2004.
