Widespread rainfall in TN continues

Chennai, Nov 9 (UNI) Tamil Nadu continued to experience widespread rainfall under the influence of vigorous north-east monsoon, with all major reservoirs brimming to full capacity.

According to the weather office here, the trough of low pressure over south-west and adjoining west-central Bay off Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh coast was persisting for the third day today.

Under its influence, rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Isolated heavy rain is likely to occur over Tamil Nadu during next 48 hours.

The weather in Chennai city and it neighbourhood would be generally cloudy with one or two showers or thundershowers, the weather office said.

Meanwhile, Avinashi recorded a very heavy rainfall of 11 cm during the last 24 hours ending at 0830 hrs today.

Tuticorin recorded nine cm, followed by Sivagiri, Sivakasi eight each, Tiruchendur and Thuckalay seven each, Chembarambakkam and Arakonam six each, Chennai Airport, Tambaram and Maduranthagam five each, Sattur and Virudhunagar four each, Chidambaram, Panruti, Gingee, Muthupet, Vanthavasi and Melur three each.

Meanwhile, copious rainfall in catchment areas of Chennai city led to heavy inflow in resevoirs, triggering flood warning for residents in downstream areas.
