VLSI design conference in B'lore from Jan 6

Bangalore, Nov 9: The Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) Society of India today said their community in the country was projected to grow ten fold by 2015 from the present 75,000.

Talking to newspersons here, Dr Biswadeep Mitra of the Society announced that it would organise the 20th international conference on VLSI design here from January six to ten, covering all aspects of the semiconductor design ecosystem. The programmme had a particular emphasis on the challenges and opportunities in nanoelectronics, specifically CMOS technology nanometer dimension.

The challenges were contradictory constraints as chip designing had to become small, intensive with more applications, which needed more progressive technology to produce electronic goods at a lesser cost, he said.

Dr Mitra said the conference was a forum for researchers and designers to present and discuss various aspects of VLSI design, electronic design automation (EDA), enabling technologies and embedded systems. It was an industry initiative to raise the awareness about design functionality.

The programme would comprise regular paper sessions, special sessions, embedded tutorials, panel discussions, design contest, industrial exhibits and two days of tutorials.

More than 1,200 delegates from the country and abroad were likely to take part in the conference, he said, adding that industrialists, academic scholars and design engineers from leading organisations from across the globe would attend the conference.
