Cabinet approves Universal Postal Union protocol
New Delhi, Nov 9: The government today approved the protocol of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) that would enable the postal administration in India to improve their services.
The decision would enable the postal administration of India to have the instruemnt of Ratification, signed by the President of India and have the same deposited with the Director General of the international Bureau of the UPU through diplomatic channels.
Briefing mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said the move will enable the Department of Posts to bring out administrative orders to enforce the provisions of the UPU Convention.
The UPU was established on October 9, 1874 and became a specialised agency of the United Nations in 1948.
