Temple elephant dead

Madurai, Nov 9 (UNI) A temple elephant of the Sourashtra Sabha died here today after prolonged illness.

According to Sabha sources, Lakshmi, the 45-year-old pachyderm, indisposed for the past one month was on treatment at the Sourashtra School premises in the city.

The treatment included a walking session every day. During today's practice, Lakshmi swooned and died immediately.

A ritual burial was held on the city outskirts, Sabha sources added.
