Security measures beefed up in view of script stir in Manipur
Imphal, Nov 9 (UNI) The Manipur government has beefed up security and ordered its employees to remain vigilant in view of the increasing violence related to Meitei script agitation in Manipur.
State Principal Secretary (Home) A E Ahmad has asked all the state government offices to ensure that officials camp at the offices at night.
Officials said all the Heads of Department have been informed about the matter.
AE Ahmad said there have been reports of possibility of vandalism and other destructive activities targeting government offices and structures.
The Meitei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL), an organisation has launched a stir in the state demanding amendment of recruitment rules for teachers to ensure that the teachers know the Meitei Mayek (script).
Pesident of MEELAL Ngasekpam Yumjao said the government did not pay any heed to the demands of the organisation.
He warned of a violent stir if the government does not fulfil its demands.
