National U-17 chess from Jan 3

Kozhikode, Nov 9 (UNI) As many as 300 players from various parts of the country are expected to participate in the national Under-17 Boys and and Girls Chess Championship to be held here from January 3.

Every state in the country would be represented by a two-member team in each category in the eight-day event, Kerala Chess Association Secretary P Venugopal said in a release.

Apart from the state sponsorship, players can also seek registration as special entry under the All Indian Chess Federation (AICF) norms, he said.

Players born after January 1, 1989 would be eligible to participate in the event, he said.

The top performers in the tournament would represent the country in the next World Championship, venue of which would be announced later, he added.
