MP Police asks Uma to don bulletproof jacket

Bhopal, Nov 9 (UNI) Bharatiya Jan Shakti Founder-President and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti, who enjoys Z-plus security cover, has been ''advised'' by the state police to don a bulletproof jacket.

''The suggestion came in writing today but no specific reason was furnished. On the one hand, the government says no threat exists to my life and on the other I am being advised to sport a bulletproof jacket,'' the firebrand sadhvi told reporters here.

Ms Bharti said she was unable to state at this point whether the idea for this arrangement came from the government or the police.

''I suspect lack of coordination between those two entities and that is why, such childish antics are taking place. From tomorrow, I will do away with the security detail provided by the regime. I had done so soon after the October 30 bypolls but re-adopted the security system during my Allahabad visit after being urged to do so by the Director-General of Police,'' she added.

Ms Bharti did not provide any reason for doing away with her security detail.
