Lok Adalat settles over 5,000 cases in Kerala

Kochi, Nov 9 (UNI) The Kerala Legal Service Authority today said that 5,229 cases had been settled through Lok Adalat in the state and a sum of Rs 18.13 crore disbursed on settlement during March-September, 2006.

Authority Executive Chairman Justice J B Koshy told a news conference here that the Authority had also helped in distributing Rs 3.6 crore to tsunami victims through the government.

He said a permanent Lok Adalat was functioning from Thiruvananthapuram since last month. One adalat each would be set up in Kochi and Kozhikode during the year.

A Conciliation Centre was also functioning at Kasaragod,Justice Koshy said adding that the Authority was also conducting legal literacy awareness classes for college and school students.
