JD(U) hails agreement between CPN(M) and Nepal Govt
New Delhi, Nov 9 (UNI) Janata Dal (United) has welcomed the agrement signed between the Nepal Governemnt and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), which has paved the way for the participation of the Maoists in the interim government of the Himalayan nation.
JD(U) president Sharad Yadav, in a letter to Nepal Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and leader of Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) Prachanda, stated that it would ensure smooth elections to the constituent assembly in the Himalayan kingdom in an atmosphere free of violence and intimidation.
Mr Yadav said, '' My party, JD(U), expresses its deep satisfaction over CPN (Maoist) joining peaceful democratic mainstream by giving up the armed struggle.'' He said, '' We are also certain that the present agreement and the comprehensive agreement, to be signed on November 16, will herald a new era of peace and development in Nepal and will strengthen democracy.''
