GIC Re cricket tournament from Nov 13
Mumbai, Nov 9 (UNI) The first All India GIC Re Cup Cricket Tournament, organised by GIC of India (Indian Reinsurer), will get underway here from November 13.
Mumbai Police Commissioner A N Roy will inaugurate the competition will feature thirteen select teams from twelve general insurance companies including the GIC Re team. The teams have been divided into Groups A, B, C, D.
The tournament will be played at the Police Gymkhana, P J Hindu Gymkhana, Islam Gymkhana, Parsi Gymkhana and Sachivalaya Gymkhana.
The tournament will be played on a league basis in the first round and all the matches will be of 45 overs each. All matches will be governed by Mumbai Cricket Association rules.
The winner of each group will qualify for the semi-finals where the winner of Group 'A' will play the winner of Group 'D' and the winner of Group 'B' will face the winner of Group 'C'.
The semi-finals will be played at the P J Hindu Gymkhana and Parsi Gymkhana, while the final will be played at the Police Gymkhana, where former India captain Ajit Wadekar will be the Chief Guest.
The winners will receive the GIC Re Cup. In addition, individual awards will be presented to the ''Man of the Tournament'' and the ''Man of the Match''.
Following are the groups: Group A: GIC Re, National Insurance, Royal Sundaram, Tata AIG.
Group B: Bajaj Allianz, ICICI Lombard, New India Assurance.
Group C: Chola Mandalam, Oriental Insurance, Reliance General.
Group D: HDFC Chubb, IFFCO Tokio, United India.
