Five million GSM users added in Oct

New Delhi, Nov 9 (UNI) About five million GSM subscribers were added in the month of October as against an addition of 4.4 million users a month earlier, Cellular Operator Association of India (COAI) announced today.

With this, the GSM subscriber base in the country has touched the 96-million mark at the end of October as compared to 91 million the previous month.

The month also saw the mobile industry achieve another milestone as the total mobile subscriber base in Delhi (both GSM as well as CDMA) went over 10-million mark.

''The GSM industry and COAI are delighted at the continued upswing in the subscriber additions,'' said COAI Director General T V Ramachandran.

He said this growth is strong evidence of the fact that GSM continues to be the predominant technology choice of the masses.

Among all circles, Category B circles witnessed the highest rate of growth at 6.3 per cent followed by Category C circles at 6.2 per cent.

Within the Category B circles, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana recorded the highest growth at 9.2 per cent and 8.8 per cent respectively.
