Cong organise block-level meets before assembly polls
Imphal, Nov 9 (UNI) The Congress has taken up a major exercise to reach the grassroot levels in the wake of the ensuing Assembly elections expected to be held in February next.
The Congress has started organising block level conferences in all the districts starting from Ahongsangbam Leikai, Imphal.
The Congress party has been planning to field 60 candidates in the next elections. Possibility of any alliance was further ruled out.
The Congress leaders said AICC Secretary Bopanna is also camping in Manipur to take part in the conferences. The party was largely portraying the success of the Ibobi government to wrest power again.
Congress leader said so far no Chief Minister in the state has completed full five years' term and Okram Ibobi would be the first Chief Minister to complete the term.
The party would also try to cash on the success story of the government trying to bring in more developmental projects and tide over major fiscal crisis.
The party is aligning with the CPI and two CPI ministers, now serving at the Ibobi government, and the party is expecting friendly contests.
State Congress President Gaikhangam said the Congress was the only party which had its cadres in all the districts while other parties were centred in the capital city.
