Bamboos to replace dying orange gardens in Mizoram

Aizawl, Nov 9 (UNI) The Mizoram government has decided to grow imported variety of bamboos in the dying orange garderns across the state.

The orange plantation has become loss making ventrue with insect blight wrecking havoc among the trees for past few years.

High quality bamboo species plantation would be considered as a replacement for dying orange gardens while the bamboo plants now were being in the process of regeneration.

A decision would be made soon whether to cultivate local variety or imported bamboo species, the sources said adding government was also working out the funding system for collection of seeds.

The agricultural department was also planning to tackle the unique problem that private planters may face difficulty in the proposed project since bamboo is regarded as forest product by the forest department.
