Another local side eliminated,SBT down Assam Regiment in tie-breaker
New Delhi, Nov 9 (UNI) Another local challenger bites the dust as Hindustan Club were beaten 0-2 by Corps of Signals, Goa, while State Bank of Travancore (SBT) held their nerves to prevail over Assam Regiment 4-3 in the penalty shootout in the qualifying round ties of the 119th Osians Durand Cup football tournament here today.
SK Mursheed put the Goa outfit ahead in the 16th minute and team mate LT Pachau made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute.
Hindustan Club was the fourth local side to be eliminated from the tournament, following the exit of Shimla Young, Shastri Club and Garhwal Heroes earlier.
In the SBT-Assam Regiment match, both sides failed to score in the regulation time and extra time and experience of the Bankmen did the trick with three Kerala Santosh Trophy players scoring in the tie-breaker.
Abdul Noushad, Lanel Thomas, Abdul Basheer -- all three played for Kerala in the recent Santosh Trophy in Gurgaon -- and Sakeer found the net for SBT while Gordona, Lalduzuala and Caobiakenga scored for the Assam side in the penalty shootout.
