Adu not training with Manchester United

LONDON, Nov 9 (Reuters) Manchester United have dismissed reports that teenage American striker Freddy Adu is due to have a training stint with the Premier League leaders.

The Washington Post reported yesterday that the 17-year-old talent had been given permission by his club D C United and Major League Soccer to train with United for two weeks later this month.

But United said on the club's Web site today: ''The reports contradict a statement released last season in which United explicitly pointed out that Adu is not a player the club are currently interested in.

''Despite the recent bout of speculation, the club's stance has not changed and Adu will not be attending a trial.'' Once seen as key to the future of the U S game, the Ghanaian-born forward became the youngest player to represent the U S senior team when he made his debut against Canada in a friendly in San Diego in January, aged 16.
