11 people dead after consuming spurious spirit

Bahraich/Lucknow, Nov 9 (UNI) The death toll in yesterdays' incident of consumption of spurious spirit in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh rose to 11 after eight people died in hospital today.

Police said the SHO of Kesharganj police station in Bhariach D K Rai has been suspended, while action was being initiated against the concerned excise officials.

District Magistrate R L Pandey has already ordered a magisterial probe into the incident.

Sources said of the three accused in the incident Janmajay Gupta has been arrested, while shop owner Ram Kripal Gupta was absconding.

The shop has been sealed.

The police was also in trail of the third accused.

The 10 deceased have been identified as Sahdev (40), Ramsamujh (41), Mohle (42), Ramtirath (45), Gulle (40), Bitana (45), Tilakram (45), Kallu (60), Ramautar (55) and Rajit Ram (39). Another victim remained unidentified.

The incident occurred in Dihwa and Kadsar villages of Bahraich, sources added.
