US-Supporting Nicaragua's Ortega hinges on democracy

WASHINGTON, Nov 8 (Reuters) The White House said that US support for Nicaragua's government under newly elected former Marxist guerrilla leader Daniel Ortega would hinge on its commitment to democracy.

''The United States is committed to the Nicaraguan people,'' said Gordon Johndroe, spokesman for the White House National Security Council, after Ortega bounced back to power with a presidential election victory yesterday.
