UDF to form Coordination Committee for smooth functioning
Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 8 (UNI) The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) today decided to constitute a Coordination Committee of top leaders for smooth functioning of the Front.
The committee, in addition to the present liaison committee, and represented by presidents and secretaries of various parties, was being constituted to bring in more discipline in the Front, UDF Convener P P Thankachan told reporters here.
It was also decided to reconstitute the liaison committee, with specific representation for each party.
The Congress would have five representatives, Indian Union Muslim League four, Kerala Congress (Mani) three, Janadhipathya Samrakshana Samithi, Kerala Congress (Balakrishna Pillai) and Communist Marxist Party two each in the reconstituted committee, he added. The committee's first meeting would be held at Kozhikode on November 12.
He added that the UDF had decided to field an IUML candidate for the Assembly by-poll at Thiruvambady, necessitated by the death of Mathai Chacko (CPI-M) last month.
Regarding the five-month delay in convening the UDF meeting, Mr Thankachan said it could not be held as the Congress had some issues with the KC(M) and JSS. They were sorted out in discussions.
