UDF to constitute Coordination Committee for its smooth functioning
Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 8 (UNI) The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) today decided to constitute a Coordination Committee of top leaders for the smooth functioning of the Front.
This committee, in addition to the present Liaison committee and represented by the presidents and secretaries of the various parties, was constituted for bringing in more discipline in the Front, UDF Convener P P Thankachan told reporters here.
It was also decided to reconstitute the Liaison committee, with specific representations to each parties, he said in the midst of the Front meeting.
The Congress would have five representatives, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) -- four, the Kerala Congress (Mani) -- three, the Janadhipathya Samrakshana Samithi (JSS), Kerala congress (Balakrishna Pillai) and Communist Marxist Party (CMP) -- two representaives each in the reconstituted committee, he added.
The fist meeting of the reconstituted Liaison Committee would be held at Kozhikode on November 12.
He also said that the UDF had decided to field IUML candidate for the Assembly bypoll at Thiruvambady, which was represented by Mathai Chacko(CPI-M), who passed away last month.
Regarding the five-month delay in convening the Front meeting, Mr Thankachan said the meeting could not be held as the Congress had certain issues with the KC(M) and with the JSS. The issues were sorted out in discussions with the parties, he added.
