SINDEX commences at Kharagpur
Kolkata, Nov 8 (UNI) SINDEX, a joint Indo-Singapore air force exercise, commenced at Air Force Station, Kalaikunda in Kharagpur today.
This is the third such exercise between the Indian Air Force and Republic of Singapore Air Force, a defence press release stated here today.
The exercise would enhance the mutual co-operation between India and Singapore and enable them to learn each other's operational philosophy and tactics, the release said.
Republic of Singapore Air Force's fighter aircrafts F-16 and MiG-27 along with Indian Air Force's Bison would participate in the exercise, sources said.
Besides, fighter controllers, air traffic controllers and radar system operators of both the air forces would also participate, sources added.
A host of other support staff would also be involved in managing engineering, logistics and administrative issues.
Air Force Station Kalaikunda came into existence during the Second World War as a forward airfield and played a vital role in all the wars fought by India.
Presently, it is regarded as one of the major IAF air bases for hosting international air exercises.
