Security forces shot dead a militant
Agartala, Nov 08 (UNI) An underground tribal militant was shot dead in an encounter with the security forces in Tripura's South district early today.
Police here said an anti-insurgency special operation police team from Taidu arrived at Dhanraipara following a tip off that suspected militants of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura(NLFT) had fired indiscriminately at the security forces. The latter retaliated forcing the rebels to flee deep inside the jungle.
Later in a search operation the team found a rebel's body with bullet wounds and recovered 90 rounds of ammunition and 2 magazines.
There was, however, no report of any casualty or injury on the security forces' side, sources added.
Police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to nab the other members of the gang.
This was the second incident in the past 36 hours that the security forces killed an NLFT ultra. On Monday night, the police shot dead a rebel at Ganganagar in Dhalai district in another encounter.
