Reliance Communications to launch Online Mobile Video Streaming

Kolkata, Nov 08 (UNI) Reliance Communications is all set to launch the country's first " Online Mobile Video Streaming of events" tomorrow, to bring about a virtual revolution in the country's communication technology.

The first online and video audio streaming of events would be hosted on a mobile phone through Steve Ballmer's keynote address at an event in Mumbai tomorrow, Reliance Communications sources here today informed.

Stating that the Mobile Video streaming was similar to a web cast and according to global analysts had a great potential for providing online video of popular event footage to millions of viewers on a mobile phone, the sources said the industry estimated that the video streaming market in India was to the tune of around Rs 250-300 crore every year.

Interestingly, popular events and specific interest events industry size is tipped to be upwards of Rs 10000 crore. Most of them rake in huge money by way of at location sponsorships and advertising during mass media telecasts.

Telecast of specific interest events have significant potential for mobile casting and the company was looking at that in a major way, the sources said adding the functionality of the mobile device however, required to support video and audio streaming capabilities and currently around 50 per cent of Reliance Communication's around 27 million subscribers had devices supporting video and audio streaming fanctionality.

Reliance Communications has already launched high end applications like mobile blogging and MMS. Mass market applications like cooking gas booking, railways and airline ticket bookings have also been launched in Reliance Mobile World.

The service could also be used to transmit the video streaming on a large screen through the mobile device at a remote location at a much lower capex and operation cost,the sources informed.
