PIL seeking immediate BMP polls adjourned
Bangalore, Nov 8 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today posted to November 13 a public interest litigation, seeking a direction to the State Government and Election Commission to announce the calendar of events to hold elections to the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP).
Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Mr Justice H G Ramesh adjourned the PIL, filed by former Mayor and Councillor of VV Puram constituency P R Ramesh, as the Government advocate sought time to get proper instructions.
The petitioner prayed that the term of office of the present Mayor, Deputy Mayor and councillors be continued till fresh elections were held as per law. The previous elections were held on November 11, 2001, and the term of office was five years from the date of the first meeting November 23, 2001.
