Nikkei opens higher, Toyota gains

Tokyo, Nov 8: Japan's Nikkei share average opened up 0.06 percent on Wednesday, helped by gains in Toyota Motor Corp. after it announced strong earnings and a tie-up with truckmaker Isuzu Motors Ltd.

As of 0001 GMT, the Nikkei was up 10.64 points at 16,404.05 following the previous session's 0.18 percent gain. The broader TOPIX index was down 0.03 percent at 1,616.20.

Toyota was up 0.7 percent at 7,150 yen after Japan's top automaker posted a better-than-expected 44 percent rise in quarterly profit, raised its forecasts for the full year and announced a tie-up with Isuzu to develop diesel engines.
