Jyotiraditya dodges 'shrimant' issue

Bhopal, Nov 8 (UNI) Young Congress Parliamentarian Jyotiraditya Scindia feels that it is meaningless to talk of monarchy in the present-day context and in a democracy, true power vests with those who enjoy public support and affection.

Mr Scindia's remark made to UNI over telephone, came in response to a recent Madhya Pradesh government notificaton adding the title 'shrimant' to the name of his aunt Yashodhara Raje Scindia, who is also the state's Sports Minister. Congress, the state's main opposition lambasted the notification.

''I do not wish to go into who protested against this and why but I have great regard for my aunt. The warm relations my late father Madhavrao Scindia and grandmother Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia had with the public are still spoken of,'' Mr Scindia claimed.
