ICRISAT launches open access information on agriculture

Hyderabad, Nov 8 (UNI) The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), in collaboration with Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations, launched an initiative to promote open access information sources in agricultural sciences and technology in India.

The new open access agriculture information would enable agricultural scientists to obtain information through Internet, which is a more searchable, value added and credible source, a press release said here today.

The initiative was launched at the First AGRIS workshop on 'Open Access in Agricultural Sciences and Technology: Indian Initiatives', organised at ICRISAT headquarters at Patancheru.

ICRISAT Deputy Director General Dyno Keatinge said the new initiative would create a new platform for information-sharing on agricultural research in the country.

The participants are keen on establishing two pilot open access information repositories in the agricultural domain, in an year--one in Delhi with support from ICAR, and the other in Hyderabad with ICRISAT and MANAGE support, the release added.
