Foreign Lawyers Matter To Be Looked Into : MoS
New Delhi, Nov 8 (UNI) Suggestions to let foreign legal firms practise in India will be looked into, Minister of State for Law and Justice K Venkatapathy told a delegation today, it was officially stated.
A 15-member delegation of US-India Business Council Legal Service Executive Mission led by Shishir Sharma met the Minister and called for allowing foreign legal firms to practise in India, an official statement said.
The group apprised Mr Venkatapathy of the Council's activities, especially exploring opportunities and development of Indo-US ties in the legal profession to promote trade relations and broaden commercial ties beteen the two countries, it said.
The Minister, accompanied by Law Secretary K Viswanathan, gave the visitors ''a patient hearing'' and told them that the suggestions will be looked into.
He said a wider consultation with members of the legal profession and various bar councils was required before taking a view on the issue.
