Five undertrials, freed from police custody.

Hardwar, Nov 8 (UNI) Armed Miscreants attacked a police van and freed the ring leader of a notorious inter-state gang of robbers and four of his accomplices, from police custody last evening.

The sources said a police van was taking the notorious 'jewel thief' of north India, Angrez, along with eleven undertrials, including four members of Angrez's gang, was return after a court hearing to Roorkee jail. About a dozen unidentified armed miscreants stopped the police van near a village, about 6 km from Roorkee, on the Hardwar Delhi national highway and forcibly freed Angrez and four members of his gang. The police personnel, who were accompanying the undertrials, were also beaten up by the miscreants.

They also snatched away two rifles from the police party. This is for the third time that Angrez had managed to escape from police custody.
