FM stresses on cyber infrastructure development
Mangalore, Nov 8: Dr R Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Union Government and former Atomic Energy Commission Chairman, today said he would recommend to the Government to provide funds for cyber infrastructure development in the 11th five-year plan in view of the revolution in the information technology field.
Inaugurating a workshop on Nuclear Systems, Nuclear Database and Applications, organised by the Mangalore University and Board of Research in Nuclear Science, Department of Atomic Energy, at Mangala Gangothri on the outskirts of the city, he said research activities in basic sciences should be a continuous process and researchers should have a national perspective in their research activities in the best interests of the country. He stressed that there should be synergy between universities and laboratories.
Mr Alan J Nicholos, Head, Nuclear Data Section, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Australia, in his keynote address, said India had achieved much in nuclear energy, the only suitable and sustainable energy solution in India. India also had one third of the world's known supply of thorium, he added.
