Dasara famous elephant runs amok

Madikeri, Karnataka, Nov 8 (UNI) Dasara famous elephant 'Bharata' ran amok and fled from the Mathigod elephant camp here, creating ruckus in the small town of Thithimathi yesterday.

People panicked and vehicles were removed to safety as the trumpeting pachyderm began to charge aimlessly. It almost turned turtle a parked lorry. The scared shop owners downed shutters.

Police and forest department personnel tried in vain to bring the elephant back to the camp with the help of domesticated jumbos.

Attempts to capture it were still continuing.
