Curfew continues in Kamptee, situation in control

Nagpur, Nov 8: Barring some stray incidents, Vidarbha remained peaceful today even as the indefinite curfew clamped in Kamptee town, about 15 kms from here, continued as a precautionary measure after widespread violence and arson rocked the town in protest against the killing of four members of a Dalit family by villagers at Khairlanji in September.

However, the curfew imposed in Yavatmal town yesterday after widespread disturbances, was lifted this morning. A trade bandh was observed to protest against the killings, but there were no untoward incidents, reports reaching here said.

In the city, protestors burnt tyres at some places, but the situation remained under control, police said.

Activists led by Jogendra Kawade, MLC, staged a silent protest march this afternoon. A bandh was observed in Khamla localilty of the city, police added.
