Competition helped Doordarshan improve standard: Ambareesh

Bangalore, Nov 8 (UNI) Newly appointed Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting M H Ambareesh today said competition from private channels has helped the State-run Doordarshan improve its programmes a great deal.

Addressing media heads from various units of the I and B Ministry here he said, competition has helped institutions like Doordarshan and BSNL improve their standards.

Recalling the days when Bangalore received Doordarshan programmes from Chennai, the Minister expressed happiness over the vast reach it commanded now, which no private channel has been able to match.

Senior officers of DAVP, DFP, Song and Drama Division, Censor Board, PIB, Doordarshan, Akashavani and PRO Defence Office were among those present in the meeting.
