Bharat Sevashram Sangh head passes away

Jamshedpur, Nov 8: Secretary of Jamshedpur unit of Bharat Sevashram Sangha (BSS) Swami Jnanatmanandaji Maharaj alias Uday Maharaj passed away following a cardiac arrest here lastnight. He was 76.

The ashram sources said the Swami went to his room after dinner but felt unwell following chest pain.

The doctor of the ashram immediately attended on him and he was rushed to Tata Main hospital. But Swamiji breathed last in the intensive care unit of the hospital.

Swamiji joined the Sangha here in 1952 and was instrumental in establishing the BSS unit here in 1968.

He dedicated his life for the afflicted and downtrodden of the society. But his work for the leprosy patitents in the Singhbhum region was unparallel.

The BSS founded three leprosy hospitals and rehabilation centres in the region under his leadership.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda paid tribute to the departed soul at the ashram premises today.

Mortal remains of Swamiji were consigned to flames at Parvati Ghat here this evening.
