Armed man gains entry into compound of Jaya's house

Chennai, Nov 8 (UNI) An armed intruder managed to gain entry into the compound of the high-security residence of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at the posh Poes Gardens here today.

Police said the man came in a two-wheeler, parked it outside the house and entered through the open wicket gate. Wielding a big knife and an iron rod, he shouted slogans against the AIADMK supremo.

Hearing the noise, the plain-clothes policeman on duty alerted his colleagues who were resting in their quarters inside the house, but as they came rushing out, the intruder, commandeering a passing car.

When the man threatened the car driver, the latter pleaded with him that he had to pick up children from school, but he would not relent. He travelled in the car upto the main road, where he alighted and took an auto.

Later, a police party came to the spot and the two-wheeler was seized. Police have sounded an alert to nab the culprit.

Investigations were on.

However, Ms Jayalalitha was away at the time and at her Siruthavur residence on the outskirts of the city.
