Another corrupt J

Srinagar, Nov 8 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation today raided the residence of a revenue official and registered a case of possession of disproportionate assets against him.

An official spokesman said the Vigilance Organisation had received complaints alleging that Ghulam Hassan Sofi, a Patwari of Gogo area in central Kashmir's Badgam district, indulged in corrupt practices and had raised huge assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The assets included a house and an annexe on two kanals of land at Kremshore village in Badgam district.

Vigilance sleuths searched his palatial house this morning and found that the house had a double-storey annexe and six shops.

The approximate value of the house was about Rs 45 lakh. The search also revealed that the official had purchased more than 17 kanals of land valuing over Rs 35 lakh, he added.

The spokesman said incriminating documents such as insurance policies worth Rs 2.50 lakh and bank deposits of over Rs 4.5 lakh have also been seized. Details about some other bank accounts were being verified, he added.

About 115 gm of gold had been found in the possession of the accused official.

Meanwhile, the spokesman said another revenue official was caught red handed while accepting bribe at Nowshera in Jammu region.

Girdawar of Dabhar Potha in Nowshera tehsil of Rajouri district Kashi Ram was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1000 from Kripal Singh for preparation of an OBC certificate in the name of his sons.

Vigilance sleuths laid a trap on and the accused official was caught red handed while accepting the bribe. The accused has been taken into custody and a case registered against him, he added.
