29 killed in truck accident

Hoshangabad (MP), Nov 8: As many as 29 people, including 10 women and 9 children, were killed and 42 others injured, 10 of them seriously, when a truck boarded by them fell 20-feet below from a bridge at Machhwasa in Piparia tahsil of this district early this morning.

Police sources said the speeding truck laden with fertiliser met with the accident while avoiding collision with another truck.

About 80 labourers and their family members, who were proceeding to Raisen district from Gadarwara for paddy harvesting, were also aboard the vehicle.

Ten seriously injured had been sent to Bhopal's Hamidia Hospital, while other injured were being treated at Piparia hospital, police added.

Senior officials, who reached the spot, arranged treatment of the victims. The accident took place between 0300 and 0400 hours, police added.
