126 protestors detained; 74 arrested, 70 out on bail
New Delhi, Nov 8 (UNI) The City police today detained 126 people, including Leader of Municipal Corporation of Delhi house Jitendra Kochar and former union minister Vijay Goel, as a preventive measure while the MCD resumed its sealing drive against unauthorised shops in the capital.
As many as 74 of them, including Mr Kochar, Mr Goel and Municipal Councillor Rohit Manchanda, were formally arrested while the others were let off. However, later a city court granted bail to all them.
Among those who were given bail by Special Executive Magistrate T R Mudgil were Confederation of All India Traders General Secretary Praveen Khandelwal and three others -- Satish Garg, Murli and Deepak -- on personal sureties of Rs 10,000 each.
But they chose not to deposit the surety amount, under pressure from their supporters, and were sent back to judicial custody.
They had been charged with disturbing public peace and tranquility.
As many as 126 people had been picked up near Ashram Chowk in South Delhi this morning when they were protesting against the resumption of the sealing drive.
