Shekhawat arrives in Guyana

Georgetown, Guyana, Nov 7 (UNI) Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat today arrived here on the first leg of his five-day goodwill visit to Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago.

Guyana Prime Minister Samuel Hinds and Indian ambassador Avinash Chandra Gupta received Mr Shekhawat at the airport.

During his stay in Guyana till November 9, the Indian Vice President will hold talks with President Bharat Jagdev and the Prime Minister on boosting relations between the two countries.

He will also inaugurate the Ravindera Nath Centre, established here by the Guyana university. The centre would give information on Indian literature and books.

Mr Shekhawat will also inaugurate Guyana's new cricket stadium tomorrow. India has financed the construction of the stadium with a grant of 6 million dollars and a concessional line of credit of 19 million dollars.

The 15000-seater stadium, to be used for next year's World Cup, has been named Providence Cricket Stadium.

Mr Shekhawat will be in Trinidad and Tobago from November 9 to 11.
