Guwahati, Nov 7 (UNI) Security forces in Asom have intensified counter-insurgency operations throughout the Brahmaputra valley as the authorities decided to mount an offensive against the ULFA following the twin blasts in Guwahati city.

Already Army and para military forces have started taking positions in central and lower Asom, where focus was low in comparison to upper Asom. So far Army had been kept away from urban areas of the state and they are basically concentrating in Upper Asom.

'' You will see a visible change of counter insurgency operation,'' said Union Home Secretary V K Duggal while talking to media today after a review meeting with Asom government, where the decision to go tough against ULFA was taken.

As the state administrative and defence officials, along with their bosses at New Delhi, raked their brains for hours behind closed doors since the fateful evening, the city was slowly limping back to normal.

People were seen back on the streets today, two days after 14 people were killed in the two almost simultaneous blasts that hit Fancy Bazaar and Pathar Kuwari areas of the city on Sunday evening.

'' We are going to take all steps to restore peace, normalcy and protect lives of innocent people,'' said Mr Duggal, who was accompanied by the Director General of BSF and CRPF also.

However, terror was written large on the faces of the people as only those who had pressing needed ventured out. Business in the otherwise busy Fancy Bazaar was much less compared to other days prior to the blasts.
