DVAC functions with partisan attitude

Chennai, Nov 7: Accusing the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) of functioning with a partisan attitude in favour of the ruling DMK, AIADMK MPs today sought to know the measures taken by the state DGP and the DVAC to curb corruption in the higher echelons of the ruling party and their family members.

In a joint letter to the DGP and the DVAC, ten Rajya Sabha members of the AIADMK said the main purpose of the DVAC was to advise the Government with respect to prevention of corruption in public service in general.

But ever since the DMK Government took over the administration, the functioning of the Directorate seemed to be motivated only with a view of helping the DMK and suppressing the opposition parties, mainly the AIADMK, they alleged.

The MPs said former AIADMK Ministers were being targeted and their houses were being raided in the glare of 'Sun TV' camera, which was being given priority in covering the DVAC raids.

If the purpose of the DVAC was really to prevent corruption, then it was the right time for registering cases against men in power, they said and added a simple scrutiny of transfer of police officers right from Inspector level up to the highest level would reveal how they got the transfers subsequent to the formation of new government, what was the motivation for the transfers to certain plum and important postings and how the activities of auction, buying and selling of transfers were being carried out.

''There are several extra-Constitutional power centres in one particular family who spearhead these tranfers, pushing men from one place to another along with respective price tags,'' they alleged.

The AIADMK MPs wondered why the DVAC had not registered any case with respect to this particular form of corruption on a suo motu basis.
