Association protests Saddam's fate

Gwalior, Nov 7 (UNI) The Indian Lawyers Association today expressed anguish over the death sentence awarded to former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein.

''Banking on a false excuse about Iraq possessing atomic and biological weapons, the United States destroyed Iraq's historic Mesopotamian culture, sovereignty and independence and seated a puppet government,'' the Association's Madhya Pradesh Chapter General Secretary Gurudutt Sharma said in a statement.

Alleging that the capital punishment was predetermined through the choice of chief justice for the trial, he added that Saddam was not even provided a proper chance to defend himself.
