Asom Governor for fighting terrorism professionally
Guwhati, Nov 07 (UNI) Asom Governor Lt.Gen (Retd) Ajoy Singh today stressed the need of fighting terrorism through professionally directed means with dedication and seriousness.
Inaugurating a seminar on ''Terrorism, Emerging Trends and need for Strategies'' organised by the Asom police here, Mr Singh asked the people in uniform to be serious in dealing with terrorism.''If we are really serious terrorism cannot survive,'' he said.
''Terrorism can only be fought through two means-professionally diverted means and creating awareness among the public.We have to share the intelligence and expertise among different groups of uniformed personnel to deal with the menace,'' he said.
He also stated that highly dedicated personnel, who could not be 'bribed', were required to fight insurgency.
''Terrorism is the product of society's virus. Hence it has to be removed through awareness among different sections of the people,'' he opined. He said there were two kinds of terrorism--indigenous and motived by foreign agencies. Security personnel should properly identify the kind of terrorism and deal accordingly, he said.
He hoped that the seminar will be able to adopt some workable methologies to fight growing terrorism in the state.
Earlier Additional Director General of Police-CID, S P Ram dwelt on terrorism and insurgency in the country and stressed the need of a joint stretagy to fight these manace.
The seminar was attended among others by Additional Secretary(R&AW), B Raman, Ex-DGP, BSF, Uttar Pradesh and Assam, Prakash Singh, senior officials from BSF, CRPF, SSB, National Security Guard and the Intelligence Bureau.
Senior police officials from West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Meghalaya, Maharashtra and Gujarat are other particants in the seminar, besides Assam Police.
