Wakf Board probe comes up in MP Assembly

Bhopal, Nov 6 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Minister Rustam Singh informed the Assembly today that an inquiry is in progress vis-a-vis complaints against the then administrator of the Wakf Board and assured that action would be taken if the official was found guilty.

Raising the matter during the question hour, Mr Arif Akil (Congress) said, ''How was Mr Farooq Khatani transferred while the probe is underway? Board employees submitted a memorandum -- against the appointment of a new administrator -- to the minister whose special assistant sent a letter to the employees' union concerned to submit a clarification.'' The minister said complaints were routine against officials but there was no rule whereby an official could not be transferred while an inquiry is in progress.

''The employees' memo contained objectionable language,'' Mr Singh added.

Mr Akil repeatedly asked the minister to clarify the duration of the probe but before Mr Singh could respond, the question hour concluded.
