Varanasi, Nov 6: The Muslim population here today burnt the US flag, besides setting afire American President George W Bush in effigy against the capital punishment handed over to deposed Iraqi president Saddam Hussein.
The Muslim population in the Reori Talao locality, lead by JD (U) leader Rahmat Ali Siddiqui, took to streets against the Iraqi court verdict and set afire US president in effigy.
Raising anti-Bush slogans, the protestors demanded that the UPA government come out openly against the verdict.
Meanwhile, another mob, led by Muslim leader Badaruddin Ahmad, staged a massive demonstration in Sarraiya Bazar locality and set afire the US flag, besides demanding that US President Bush, not Sadddam, should be hanged to death for crime against humanity.
''Bush is a terrorist who has created many other terrorists like Osama Bin Laden. By making the Iraqi court sentence Saddam to death, the US president has proved that he himself is hell-bent on committing crime against humanity,'' Mr Ahmad said.
